Zakynthos - The flower of the levant
Zakynthos is still one of the lushest and loveliest Greek islands, with green
hillsides covered with flowers in spring and early summer, white cliffs dropping
to dazzling turquoise waters, and some of the best beaches in Greece. Even
better, it claims to have more sun than any other Greek island – and it has
sizzling nightlife to match.
For most visitors, the main attractions are Zakynthos’s beaches – which
include some of the very best in Greece – and its cheap, cheerful and
unsophisticated nightlife.
Municipality of Alykes
One of the popular centres in the island of Zakynthos (12 km away from the
town). The village gets its name from the salt pans behind the beach, where the
road climbs to the village Katastari. The area is ideal for hiking, biking as
well as trekking and mountainbiking. Most of the sandy beaches within the area of Alykes are
certificated with the "blue flag" of the European Community.
