Beaches on the western shore of Zakynthos
The beaches on the western shore of Zakynthos (Zante) are absolutely
stunning, and are accessed by tour boat. Hundreds of visitors gather at the
beaches Limnionas and Navagio (“Shipwreck Beach”), the most popular and most
photographed beach on Zakynthos Island, where people lay their towels around a
shipwreck.
Porto Roxa: A small bay with crystal
clear waters and is a lovely place to swim. Steps lead down to the bay, where
mooring is also available for small boats.
Porto Limnionas:
The beach of Limnionas, or Porto Limnionas as it is called by
the locals, is situated almost the middle of the western coast of the island, some
7 kilometers southwest of the inland village of Aghios Leon. The beach is more
of a fjord than of the
typical long beach. The fans of diving and snorkeling will find a paradise here.
The seabed is full of fish and the rocks at the coast full of
caves, small and large. Anybody can visit the cave found beside the steps you use to come
to the beach.
Porto Vromi lies
in the area of Volimes at a distance of about 23 km from Zakynthos town. It is a
small bay with a beautiful white and thick sandy beach. Also from the
small harbor of Porto Vromi one can go to the bay of
Agios Georgios (St George), the well known beach.
Shipwreck:
The most popular and probably most photographed of
all Zakynthos beaches is Navagio (Shipwreck), which is located on the
western side of the island. It can be accessed only by boat, has powdery sand
and azure waters, and is surrounded by high cliffs.
